I chose this book and another by Kelby (The Book of digital photography), based on observations of this site and the recommendations of the various photography forums. When comparing the two, is not a book contest Miotke wins hands down. This does not mean that Kelby's book is terrible, it is actually quite good.
The BetterPhoto Guide provides a comprehensive overview of digital photography and explains the basis on which it relies. The technical elements, such as exposure to light and are clearly explained in an easy to understand and succinct. As my understanding of the various components increasing rapidly cleared from the automatic configuration of the camera (Canon Powershot A630) and the quality of my photos are killed.
Another important component of the book deals with the artistic elements of photography (composition). What, how and why are discussed and all suggestions are implemented immediately. After reading this book, I was able to compose images better with a higher concentration and have also gained a greater appreciation and understanding of other work.
There are also chapters on particular components of a digital camera. This helps the reader to become the "knowledge" with your particular camera. Configuration file and also the importance are discussed and help the reader to decide which one is right for him / her (if the camera allows the election). A guide for acquiring digital camera is included at the end of the book, which provides valuable advice.
This book is aimed at beginners and is an excellent choice for both DSLR and P & S owners. My only caveat is that you always want better equipment and more time to devote to your new habit. Er. . I want to say (Time Hobby Kelby).
In general, it seems to me a beautiful picture book that provides a solid basis for starting his effort camera.
A lot of books these days equate digital photography with Photoshop, which to me is a waste of time. If you do not take good photos to begin with, the end result will be good, no matter the number of post-precession do on your computer. This book talks a lot of the techniques of photography in a very accessible. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance is slightly de-mystified, while equal emphasis is given on the content and composition of photographs. As a rookie in relation to professional photography, I found this explanantions book and the illustrations to be very good indeed. Highly recommended!
If you're about to buy your first book digital photography, or even the new compact digital camera
SLR camera or let this book be your first reference. Indeed, it may be only a reference, as a beginner or intermediate
photographer.
