Medium Format Snowboard Photography with Ryan HK

In another winter themed episode, we went out with acclaimed snowboard photographer Ryan HK to shoot promo stills for Canada Olympic Park. Instead of using a standard 35mm DSLR, he took out the Pentax 645D medium format SLR, studio strobes, and the killer K5600 Joker 800 constant light. See how Ryan captures his amazing images, and the terrible suffering his assistant Peter Olson is subjected to.

18 people bought the Nikon coolpix. lololol had to. i normally don’t comment about the dislikes.
@freestylefilmsinc I’ve met Chase and worked with him a little. Let me say this: What an incredible person! He is a great photographer but an even better person.
I’ve used several medium formats and I still won’t use anything other than my 1D and 1Ds series Canons. Mediums are over rated in my book. 15 years of shooting and I’ve used them all. Mediums is to a Benz as to Canon(or even Nikon) is to a Chevrolet. A Mercedes Benz is nice and all but you can’t take a 60K Car (or camera) on back roads like you can a Chevy. It’s luxury over what is really the best all around performer.
Among various lenses, I own a 1DsMk2 1dMk3 (2)1DsMk3 and 1DsMk4
@rpmasse01 I totally agree. I was coming down to say the exact same thing.
results don’t look that good, i would like to see the stills, because the video might not do justice to the actual pics
All the gear and no idea
A lot of expensive gear and tech… unfortunately with lackluster results.
@jamespinderphotoman As we can clearly see, oh wait we can’t bullshit
to say hes got all that equitment his pics are pretty rubbish im 14 and im better at shooting extreme sports than him
This guy talks big but the pics suck..
@freestylefilmsinc AGREED!
@TheCameraStoreTV should have gone out with chase jarvis
@freestylefilmsinc Hassie Multishot cameras don’t handle motion very well. Awesome reproduction camera though…
PENTAX… NO its all about the hasselblad h4d-200ms
well…its PENTAX. LOL
well…its PENTAX. LOL
well…its PENTAX. LOL
LMAO CANT TOUCH IT WITH A 35MM? His photos blow cok. Give a real pro a T3i/24L/85L and he can do better. Some short of famous my pink butt please. Loser much. Peter you don’t need to put up with that fat junk.
@TheCameraStoreTV what happened to the Hasselblad vs. Leica S2 vs. Pentax 645D shootout that you promised??? =(
The title of the video seems to be incorrect. It should have been “How to ruin your photographic effort by lousy framing”
Olha esse video em slow motion da HS20

The results were somewhat disappointing considering the expense of the camera, and the amount of lights and gear used. I think you could have achieved better results with smaller chip cameras. Canon 1ds mark iii 70-200 2.8is with a ND filter and on camera flash would have done the job just as well IMO. At 6:53 I don’t see any benefits of all this fancy continuous light or medium format blah blah.
I was expecting more “professional” looking photos. Especially with such gear. Ryan is pretty much all talk and no game.
Your stereo microphone is not working properly … all sounds are kinda reversed way..
